An affordable car is one you can buy, insure and maintain within your budget. Compare actual vehicle quotes and ownership costs before choosing a monthly payment.
Build the budget from the full cost
Start with a realistic monthly limit that includes insurance, fuel, maintenance, registration and a reserve for repairs. Subtract those costs to see how much room is left for a loan payment. Keep cash available for unexpected expenses.
Compare new and used options
Request the complete price for the same trim from more than one seller. For a used vehicle, check the ownership documents, service history and condition. Consider an independent inspection before paying a deposit. Compare warranty coverage and maintenance costs over the time you expect to own it.
Compare financing separately
Ask for the cash price and the financed price. Compare the CAT, down payment, fees, insurance, term and total amount payable. Use CONDUSEF’s auto loan simulator and Banco de México’s CAT calculator to check how changing the term or down payment affects the comparison.
